It’s Already Done

This year has been quite the journey. It's been a day-by-day struggle, with some good moments, but overall, it has felt like an uphill battle. The phrase "hanging by a thread" has carried significant weight for my mental well-being throughout this year. But as another saying goes, *"when you're hanging by a thread, make sure it is the hem of His garment."
That's why when the song "Lord Do It For Me" by Zacardi Cortez played in my car, I listened to it attentively, on repeat. Every word resonated with me, capturing the desperation I've felt during the endless days and nights of troubles, where I've called out to God to intervene, to pave a way, to part the Sea, to "fix it for us." This has been the prevailing prayer in my heart for a significant part of this year.
Yet, as I listened today, I found myself sitting in my car, unable to sing, just listening intently. Then in such a matter-of-fact way, I heard Jesus speak to my heart, affirming, "I have. I have done it for you. I have made a way. It is done."
So, I just listened and leaned in. Sitting there, dumbfounded by my own previous logic, and holding on to this clear and simple truth—He has! It’s already done!
Throughout this year, I've labored under the weight of numerous worries, seeking peace, deliverance, and a way out of my struggles. But Jesus has already provided all of this for us. His love is so profound that through His sacrifice on the cross, He has freed us from the grip of sin and the perpetual worries of life.
I think this freedom is so difficult for us to fully grasp. Almost like the animal whose chain has been cut off, yet they still walk only up to the limit of where the previous chains used to be.
We’re no longer bound. Jesus has already given us peace (John 14:27), made a way (John 14:6), and offered Himself as our refuge and strength in times of trouble (Psalm 46). We are already victorious (1 Corinthians 15:57)! All that remains for us is to accept and walk in what He has already accomplished for us.
I reflect on how animals shed their skin. They don't linger in their old skin, trying to squeeze back into it. They don't pause to ponder the past. Instead, they simply shed it and move forward with their new covering.
How much more should we do the same?
We are called to embrace the new creation we are in Christ, leaving behind the old self (2 Corinthians 5:17).
I am so tired of living in worry, sin, and old patterns that do not align with the person God has called me to be. I no longer need to cry out in desperation for a way out, for it is already before me.
The implications of this truth are still unfolding for me, but one thing is clear—I am done hanging by a thread.
Instead of a thread, I can take on the entire coat and let it warm me. Let it protect me. I can sit still and envelop myself in the fullness of who Jesus is and who I am in Him.
Reflection Corner
In what areas of your life are you still crying out for something Jesus has already done?
What "old skin" is God asking you to shed today?
Can you allow yourself to live as someone who is already free?
Practical Takeaways
Meditate on John 14 and 2 Corinthians 5:17 this week.
Write down all the things you’ve been asking God to do—then write "He has" beside each one.
Sit still in His presence today and thank Him for what He's already done.
Shalom & Grace,
Lis
