Prayer Room

I love creating areas in my home that feel inspired.
I daydream about how to redecorate over and over again. Should I move this piece of art? Change the color scheme of the throw pillows? More light or low light? How can I create an atmosphere that embodies the peace the Lord gives me, or foster the peace that He needs me to have? Yet this isn't just me; I believe many women share this beautiful gift of nesting—transforming houses into homes.
After finding Jesus, I dreamed of the "perfect" prayer room—an ethereal, dreamlike space where I could enter freely into God's presence. A place to read my Bible without distractions, where profound spiritual truths would be revealed. Yet, in every home I've lived in, I couldn't quite create that space.
I would scroll through Pinterest, and think, "Hmm... what would my prayer room look like?"
Well, I think God has a great sense of humor!
If you've read or skimmed my last two posts, you know they had something to do with laundry.
My picturesque prayer room? It's my laundry room!
This is the place where I find myself constantly. And yes, everything in me dreads the never-ending folding, sorting, and ironing. But this is what allows my mind to wander—the perfect, quiet place to reflect on what I can’t contemplate amid all the distractions of the day. Here, I put on my headset to listen to the Bible, worship music or sermons.
Amidst the endless loads of clothes, this unlikely place has become the most restful sanctuary for my soul. That is my prayer room, my worship room, my war room. The Lord meets me here in powerful ways.
I share this turn of events because our everyday lives are filled with distractions! Satan would have us believe we need a special place or method to pray—anything to divert us from simply sitting down (or folding away) and talking to God!
Dear sisters & brothers, you don’t need anything other than what you currently have.
The Lord is ready to meet you wherever you make yourself available.
Have a long commute? That car is your prayer room.
Endless dishes and a dirty kitchen? Prayer room.
A home filled with little gnomes—I mean, beautiful children—creating endless clutter? Prayer room!
Wherever you are, as you are, the Lord is ready to speak to you, to impart wisdom, to shape you.
Just as a room doesn't have to be perfect to be useful, the same applies to us! We don’t need to be holier-than-thou, picture-perfect Christians. Does that even exist? Come as you are to that space. Tired? Confused? Not feeling good enough? What a great posture for prayer! We go to our God for all we need, acknowledging our daily dependence on Him.
Matthew 11:28 (ESV): Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
This may be a simple post, but I hope it encourages you! I still smile and giggle a bit, knowing that my laundry loads have become powerful meet-ups with the Almighty!
I can’t wait to hear how (and where) the Lord is choosing to speak with you.
Reflection Corner
Do I believe I need perfect conditions before I can come to God?
Where in my daily routine can I intentionally turn my attention to prayer?
How has the Lord already been speaking to me in unexpected places?
Practical Takeaways
Identify a daily chore or quiet moment where you can build in time to pray or reflect. It doesn’t have to be long—just intentional.
If you feel distant from God, start right where you are. Invite Him into your drive, your dishwashing, your diaper-changing.
Listen to the Bible or worship music during mundane tasks to create a spiritual rhythm in ordinary places.
Shalom & Grace,
Lis
